I’m Jonathan A. Cerruto, a published author, fashion designer, and visual artist exploring the boundary where narrative storytelling and abstract expressionism meet.
Born in Canada and raised in Italy, my creative foundation began at Milan’s prestigious Marangoni Institute, where I trained as a fashion designer. That background in garments, textiles, and tactile composition heavily shapes my approach to visual art today. Rather than relying on traditional figurative forms, I translate emotion, mood, and internal narrative onto canvas through bold abstract expressionism.
My artwork relies on heavy impasto, dynamic palette knife strokes, and complex layering to create rich, physical textures. Drawing directly from the atmospheric depth of my fiction writing, including my Joshua Bane, and Elara series, my paintings explore the interplay between light, shadow, resilience, and raw emotion.
A major milestone in my visual art journey was my solo exhibition at the Bear Steps Art Gallery in Shrewsbury, UK. Showcasing my textured abstract canvases in the main gallery, the exhibition marked a successful highlight in sharing my physical paintings with an international audience. Bridging the worlds of fashion design, literary creation, and fine art, my goal is to create compelling visual worlds that resonate deeply with the viewer.
