Cherie is a multidisciplinary artist working across illustration, design, and street-based practices. With a background spanning fashion, graphics, and art, her work today is a bold mash-up of these disciplines…instinctive, character-led, and rooted in playful observation.
Currently immersed in what she describes as a “circus of characters,” Cherie’s ongoing series Clowning Around brings expressive, slightly chaotic figures into dialogue with the urban environment. Drawn to peeling paint, torn posters, and overlooked surfaces, she uses the street as both canvas and collaborator, allowing texture, decay, and chance to shape the final work.
Her approach balances humour with intent. While her work often appears light-hearted or irreverent, it carries a sharp awareness of identity, presence, and the spaces we move through. The characters she creates feel both familiar and surreal — fragments of personality, mood, and memory captured in line and gesture.
Working on paper as well as directly in public spaces, Cherie maintains a tactile, hands-on process that reflects her design roots. Composition, colour, and rhythm play a key role, whether in a framed piece or a spontaneous street intervention.
