Emerging through a deep connection, through active listening and experiencing, researching and recording, my work tells a nonlinear story of the relationships and entanglements between land, history, memory and life of the human and more than human. It is multi layered and multi meaning, with an ambiguity which I hope opens contemplative moments and reflection in the viewer. Research and recording in sketchbooks, notebooks, sound and moving image, leads to the creation of works that are unplanned and instinctual but are informed by the knowledge I have built up. I work with a range of materials including mosaic, painting, drawing, bookmaking, and paper making. Ecological sustainability is important and I am forging deeper connection to land and my materials through the slow contemplative process of grinding, sieving and binding minerals for mark making, the use of foraged materials in mosaic and through experimenting with paper making.
