My mosaic making all started when I kept finding beautiful shards of pottery that had been discarded years ago as rubbish. I then started finding them in streams, on the beach and unlikely places. Every time I found one I would stick it onto a papier mache vase I had made and stood in the corner of my hallway, not always cleaning it properly first! It was just somewhere to put them, keep them, value them.
Soon the passion evolved into searching out beautiful but imperfect pots in junk shops. I have always loved old pots and bits and bobs. I soon found I was remaking, replacing and rethinking the shards and objects which led me to Pique Assiette. I like how with Pique Assiette is imperfect yet perfect. Each shard of pot has a past and a story which has an intrinsic and beautiful value.
Over the following decade or so I have made mosaics, taught workshops on recreating beautiful objects from the broken and unwanted, My mosaic nom de plume is CracktPot Jo and mosaic making is my mindful therapist, blood, sweat and tears, expressive, obsessive calling and creative outlet that I continue to share with others through teaching, showing and selling my work with a characteristic CracktPotty enthusiasm.
